East Harlem, located at the southeastern subsection of Harlem, is bordered by 5th Avenue to the west, the Harlem River to the north, East River to the east, and East 96th Street to the south. This neighborhood shares much of its rich cultural history with the rest of Harlem, but with its own unique style.
New condominiums and apartment buildings in the area have drawn a diverse population to the neighborhood and while there have been some significant changes, East Harlem still maintains its character.
